swing wide the gates of summer!

summer's door swings wide
on an open field
alive with firefly melodies,
and
twilight skies.
just above,
the stand of dusk-lit trees,
is crowded.
all around me evening bats and one lonesome dragonfly,
dine on invisible mosquitoes.
they traverse this silent, yet burgeoning thoroughfare.
hands slap aimlessly at sleeveless arms,
not deaf to their presence,
out on the pond
choirs of frogs and toads
vie for my already overflowing
summer joy.
dolomedes (the fishing spider) eyes sparkle,
frozen
by the glare of a searchlight.
i am a joyful summer wanderer
on this, my first day of vacation.
